Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten!

MEET MRS. LOVEGREN

I am very excited to introduce myself as the Kindergarten teacher at St Timothy’s School. I grew up in St. Augusta, MN where I attended private school for pre K – 6th grade. My husband John and I were married in 2000 and joined St. Timothy’s parish as newly weds 2001. We felt such a strong connection to the community and have made many friends here. We have three amazing children, Kayla, John Jr., and Marissa. Our family moved to Annandale and became members of the St Ignatius Catholic Church when our children were old enough to attend school there. This community, for us, has always been so special. I am so happy to be coming back “home” to teach kindergarten. I can not tell you how much it fills my heart. This is a community that leads by example in every way and I am so grateful to find my way back to St. Timothy’s.

I have worked in a variety of careers and found a calling to work with children in the fall of 2014 as an Education Support Professional for children with exceptional needs. I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to work with these children. It was during this time that I felt a continuous pull to go back to school to become a teacher. I attended St. Cloud State University and earned my degree in K-6 Elementary Education.

It is my goal to provide a space for students to feel welcomed, comfortable, and safe. I am a collaborative planner and so I look forward to receiving any feedback that you may have to build a strong classroom community for our students. We will work together to instill important traits in our students such as a strong sense of self, respect, responsibility, making strong choices, and learning through consequences. All students are expected to work hard and make good choices toward their behavior. Together, we will make this year AMAZING!

Warm wishes,

Mrs. Lovegren

Kindergarten Notes:

Religion:

Our students in Kindergarten will learn the basic building blocks of our faith. We also focus on appropriate school behavior. We have daily prayers and learn to be a follower of Jesus.

Reading:

Our Super kids curriculum includes teacher led classroom activities with connections to our faith. Each week we will be introducing a big idea. Students will then work in a small group breakout sessions to continue to develop ideas and focus on individualized growth. Lessons have read alouds and hands on activities that include word work, phonics and handwriting.

Handwriting:

Our curriculum has handwriting components imbedded within to provide for guided instruction as well as independent practice.

Math:

Our students will be introduced to many math concepts through our curriculum provided by McGraw Hill “My Math” for Kindergarten. We will also use supplemental materials to enrich their learning experiences and math connections to other subject areas, such as language arts, science, and social studies. Students will strengthen connections to concepts through play as well.

Science & Social Studies:

We use Mystery Science and Scholastic News to guide our students learning in these subjects. Many lessons for science and social studies are also integrated into our reading curriculum. In addition to those topics already covered there, we will dive deeper into these areas through research and discovery. Students will learn about geography, classification of living and non-living things, rules, the environment, and many other topics!

Enrichment – Art: (weekly)

Many of our subjects will include elements of Art in activities, Art will be taught as a separate subject weekly, as we focus on the elements and principles of art more deeply.  Library (weekly) our class will visit the schools library every week and books will be available for them to check out as long as they do not have any overdue books. Books checked out are due to be returned the following week on their designated Library day. STEM (weekly) we will integrate engineering and creative development of ideas with our science units and have time weekly for students to explore materials and experiment to build and create anything they can imagine.
