Middle School

Through our faith and educational opportunities, St. Timothy’s middle school students focus on academics, serving others and living out their Catholic faith. Throughout the year, our students are exposed to the virtues of our faith.  Through these virtues they are able to apply them to their daily lives through various activities.

Religion:  The 6th grade focus is the Old Testament.  In 7th grade, the focus is the figure of Christ through the Gospels, Sacraments, and prayer.  The 8th grade is studying the history of the church.  The curriculum used for Religion is Sophia Press:  Spirit of LIfe.

Our 8th grade class also studies apologetics, where they learn to defend their faith through faith, science, and reason.

Language Arts:  Students will be reading novels, studying grammar, writing essays, stories, and research papers as well as journaling.  They will also strengthen their public speaking skills through various types of speeches and presentations.  The grammar curriculum is Voyagers.  The curriculum for spelling and vocabulary is Sadlier.

Math:  We will master math topics such as Algebra, fractions, decimals, and geometry.  Through the use of problem solving strategies and math activities the students will be prepared for experiences in the real world.  We use the McGraw-Hill curriculum for our learning.

Science:  In 6th grade we study Earth Science.  7th grade studies Life Science and 8th grade studies Physical science.  We do projects from weather reporting, frog dissection to building simple machines.  Each year the students use the scientific method through their science fair projects.  Students participate locally and regionally in this activity. The curriculum we use is Savvas.  Grades 6 and 8 participate in an environmental learning experience at Deep Portage.  This is a multiple day opportunity that enriches their educational learning.

History:  In 6th grade, the students will both study ancient history (The Origin of World Cultures) AND  learn about the history of Minnesota which include settlements, government, and expansion. In 7th grade we learn American history covering the explorers through the Civil War. 8th grade history picks up at the Reconstruction era through WWII.

Enrichment classes:  These are the special classes that make our students well rounded individuals.  Examples of some of the enrichment classes are study skills, family consumer science: table etiquette, laundry, basic sewing, as well as cooking, and art.

Specialist Classes:  These classes include Choral Music or Band and Physical Education.  All middle school students have the opportunity to join the school church choir.
